Hello again, smol.pub! A lot has happened since I last had time to sit down on my desktop in my free time.
After accidentally nuking my backup [1] on the homelab and booting to a live USB, I decided I might as well reinstall my OS. It might seem heavy-handed, but I was planning on moving to NixOS at some point, and my server was already down, anyway.
It's somewhat stable now, and I was able to replace most of my Docker compose stacks with native NixOS services with just a few lines of config.
Moving my services that are in active development was a lot more painful though, and I wish I had just stayed with Docker for that.

Finally finished God Emperor of Dune. It took 1 renewal (3 weeks + 1 week extension) which I think is an okay length. Someone still has Heretics of Dune checked out and is 2 weeks overdue.
I credit libRedirect [3] for that for "nuking" my YouTube feed. That meant I have to search for a video and not just scroll endlessly until I find something I would like to watch. That in turn drastically reduced my screen time.
As for the book itself, it definitely was a lot harder to read than the previous books in the series, and I relate to Moneo a lot (I did not understand what Leto was talking about most of the time).
Recently, I've been staying at the graduate students spaces more and more. I mostly was just wrapping up work stuff, but I've also been reading the team's research papers. There is still a lot for me to learn.
I've also talked to most of the people on my row, which I think is good. Hopefully I get to meet more people once classes actually start. It's very unlikely I will be classmates with my labmates though as they're mostly PhDs.
I still haven't figured out the smoothest way to write Gemtext. In my first post, I was just doing edits through the web portal. I had to republish a bunch of times because I couldn't get the formatting right for links.
Now I'm using a text editor and a Gemini browser (Lagrange) so I know what looks like before I post. It reminds me a lot of the olden days when I was playing around with HTML. Maybe I have just become too spoiled.
I'm curious how everyone else is doing it. Are they just used to the Gemtext syntax that they just straight up write and then upload?
